In a visionary leap for youth-focused media in Nigeria, acclaimed media entrepreneur and founder of The Big Break Moment Africa, Tayo Folorunsho, is set to launch Universal Varsity Television (UVTV), a first-of-its-kind digital TV channel dedicated to empowering Nigerian students and fostering job creation through edutainment.
The launch follows the official approval of a digital broadcast licence by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), a major milestone in Folorunsho’s mission to build a student-first media ecosystem.
“I kept knocking on doors to share content for student development—some platforms asked for millions,” said Tayo.
“That’s when I knew we had to create our own space. I approached NBC with the vision, and we got the licence for Universal Varsity Television”, he added.
For over a decade, Folorunsho has led impactful student-focused initiatives across campuses – ranging from cultural festivals and leadership competitions to entrepreneurship showcases. Now, with UVTV, he is expanding that mission on a national scale.
Through edutainment-driven programming, Universal Varsity Television will spotlight student voices, creativity, and innovation. The channel will feature: Campus entertainment shows; Academic and talent competitions; Creative showcases & digital entrepreneurship stories as well as Career mentorships & community impact projects.
Beyond content, UVTV aims to serve as a launchpad for youth employment and skills development. The channel will recruit young Nigerians into key media roles – producers, editors, content creators, designers, and presenters- offering mentorship, industry training, and paid opportunities.
“This is more than just a TV station. It’s a movement to equip students with media skills, income, and a sense of purpose,” Tayo added. “We’re nurturing the next generation of media professionals in Africa.”
With anticipation building ahead of the official launch, Universal Varsity Television is poised to become a powerful platform for youth empowerment, cultural expression, and economic growth. Tayo’s story is a testament to the power of vision, grit, and creating space where none existed.
“This isn’t just about TV. It’s about helping young people find their voice, own their future, and rewrite the African story”, he added.
