“Call to Serve Humanity” – Lagos Golden Hearts Lions Club President Vows Greater Impact

The Lagos Golden Hearts Lions Club has officially installed Lion Godfrey Ovie Gimoh, MJF, NLCF, as its 2nd Club President in a grand investiture ceremony attended by esteemed dignitaries, fellow Lions, and well-wishers. In his acceptance speech, Lion Gimoh expressed profound gratitude for the trust bestowed upon him and reaffirmed his commitment to leading the club toward greater service to humanity.

Addressing the gathering, the newly installed president acknowledged the outstanding contributions of his predecessor, Lion Chief Oyin Frances Zarat Adegbite, NLCF, and the visionary efforts of the club’s charter members. He praised their dedication, which has propelled the club to remarkable heights within Lions International District 404-B4.

Reflecting on the club’s impact in the past year, Lion Gimoh highlighted notable initiatives, including a free eye screening program that provided 130 reading glasses, the payment of N1 million in medical bills for pediatric cancer patients at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and feeding programs that catered to 350 individuals in December 2024 and 700 homeless persons in January 2025.

Looking ahead, the Lagos Golden Hearts Lions Club has outlined an ambitious agenda for the 2024-2025 Lions service year, focusing on three core areas: pediatric cancer awareness, hunger relief, and environmental sustainability. Lion Gimoh emphasized the urgent need to support pediatric cancer patients, alleviate hunger in the face of rising food prices, and address environmental challenges that could have dire consequences for Lagos and beyond.

To achieve these goals, the club has launched a fundraising campaign to generate a minimum of N10 million to support its community projects. The funds will be directed toward the payment of medical bills for 10 pediatric cancer patients at LASUTH in March 2025 (N5 million), the planting of 1,000 trees across Lagos communities on World Earth Day, April 22, 2025 (N2 million), and the feeding of 2,500 homeless and destitute persons in Lagos in May 2025 (N3 million).

Lion Gimoh passionately called on individuals, corporate bodies, and philanthropists to contribute generously towards these initiatives. “Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve,” he urged.

The ceremony was not only an occasion to celebrate new leadership but also a call to action for collective efforts in addressing pressing societal needs. As the club embarks on this new chapter, Lion Gimoh expressed confidence that with the dedication of its members, the support of the community, and divine blessings, the Lagos Golden Hearts Lions Club will continue to flourish and make a lasting impact.

Closing his speech, he extended heartfelt appreciation to his family, particularly his wife and daughter, for their unwavering support, and encouraged attendees to enjoy the evening while contributing to the noble cause. With a firm commitment to the Lions Club’s global motto, “We Serve,” the Lagos Golden Hearts Lions Club under the leadership of Lion Godfrey Ovie Gimoh is set to deepen its impact in Lagos, offering hope and support to the vulnerable in society.
