LSSTF Hands Over Olympics-size Swimming Pool at Rowe Park
The Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF), on Thursday, officially handed over a newly reconstructed 250-seater capacity Olympic-size swimming pool, a warm-up pool, two tennis courts, one basketball court, one volleyball court and one handball court, at the Rowe Park Sports Centre in Yaba.
This development is part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to improve sports infrastructure and create better opportunities for athletes and young sports enthusiasts.
Speaking at the event on Thursday, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Bolaji Ogunlende, on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing world-class sports facilities in line with the THEMES+ Agenda.
He stated that the newly upgraded facilities would help develop grassroots sports and provide a training ground for athletes and students across the state.
The renovation project at Rowe Park includes several key upgrades, such as a new Olympic-size swimming pool, warm-up/training pool, two tennis courts, one basketball court, one volleyball court, and one handball court.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed deep appreciation to Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, who is the Platinum Donor, for his generous donation of N200 million towards the project.
He also acknowledged the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority and other private organisations for their continued support of sports development in the state.
“As we handover this facility today, we are not just commissioning a new Swimming Pool, we are also opening doors to new opportunities, promoting healthy lifestyles, and increase in the number of Medals in Swimming for our State in future competitive events,” Sanwo-Olu concluded.
In his vote of thanks, the Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Olaposi Agunbiade, on behalf of the staff and management of LSSTF, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Lagos State Governor, as well as other donors which include; Adebutu,
Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, Julius Berger Plc, Sterling Bank, LASACO Assurance and the Lagos State Inland Revenue Services.
Agunbiade said, “I will like to extend my gratitude to the Nigeria Aquatic Federation for rendering free consultancy services and professional advice to the LSSTF in line with FINA rules and specification. All the stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of this project, I say thank you.
“This Swimming pool will provide a platform for our young people to develop their talents, build their confidence and pursue their dream.”
