FRC Boss, Olowo to Speak at UN’s Economic and Social Council Session in New York

The Executive Secretary/CEO, Financial Reporting Council (FRC), Dr. Rabiu Olowo will speak at the Coordination Segment of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York between February 6th and 7th.


Olowo is the 41st Session Chair of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development-International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (UNCTAD-ISAR).


According to a statement, Olowo was invited as a panelist on a panel titled, “Conversation with Executive Secretaries of the regional commissions and Chairs of functional commissions and expert bodies on accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals including leveraging the outcomes of the Summit of the Future.”


Olowo would be “sharing the work of the Financial Reporting Council as it has impacted the sustainable development goals in Nigeria with a view to further enhance and advance its achievement. In addition, as the 41st Session Chair of UNCTAD-ISAR, our ES/CEO will be giving reports of how the different projects developed by the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on ISAR aligns with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.


“The Coordination Segment is being organised by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. The Coordination Segment comprising Heads of United Nations entities, Chairs of functional commissions and regulators across the globe as well as professionals will assist in coordinating the activities of UN Systems entities, the subsidiary bodies, and specialised agencies in economic, social, and environmental areas.

As Chair of UNCTAD ISAR, Olowo plays a crucial role in shaping the global financial reporting landscape. His vision for improved transparency and comparability in financial reporting aligns with the FRC’s mission to promote excellence in financial reporting and governance.


Under Olowo’s leadership, the FRC has undergone significant transformation, with initiatives such as the development of Small and Medium Enterprises, Corporate Governance Guidelines (SME CGG) and launching the roadmap for the adoption of sustainability reporting standards in Nigeria in collaboration with the ISSB Chairman.
