Healing a Fractured World: Ayomide D’Great “To beautify an ugly World”
By Emmanuel Daraloye
This spoken-word piece titled “To beautify an ugly World” written, and performed by Ayomide Inufin professionally known as Ayomide D’Great is a poem that speaks to the social consciousness of humans in a fractured society.
Produced by Ayomide Inufin Films in 2024, this art mildly tackles the realities, even while it also advocates for unity, love, and peace.
It starts with a thoughtful statement: “The world is a broken place.” This statement sets the tone immediately; of concern, reflection, and deep-thinking that challenges his audience to check well the moral and emotional state of humanity. The “resounding drums” of brokenness in broken places, broken minds, broken souls, broken children… serve as the central figurative expression around which the whole piece is all about.
Among the work’s greatest strengths is the use of contrast. Ayomide paints a picture of the genesis which can be called the past, now; a time when “flowers grow in peace and fields don’t accommodate war,” before comparing it with a present filled with hatred, division and violence. This contrast raises up the emotional impact of this piece and its message, and also encourages listeners to reflect on the decline of humanity from communal values.
In this art, Ayomide demonstrates a good command of wordplay. He links “peace” and “piece” clamping on a simple homophone and making it a useful artistic device. Lines like “How can we make peace when every piece of us is shattering?” effectively connect personal divides with social conflict. This enriches the poem and also reinforces its central message.
Notable also among the spoken-word’s persuasive nature. Instead of resting too much, and alone on the world’s problems, Ayomide also offers solutions rooted in compassion and understanding. This constant please, “Instead of kill them or destroy them, let us rebuild and reforge them,” shifts the poem from criticism to advocacy.
Using the FIFA World Cup, Olympics and the rainbow; these recognized symbols, the poet emphasizes the beauty of diversity and collective effort and its essence. These references enable the poem’s access to a broad audience and strengthen its call for global unity. Here, Ayomide uses this art as a medium to pass an information that transcends a location, but goes across the world.
Although, while this piece is rich, and filled with knowledge and even emotional appeal, some certain statements would have been better with more structured phrasing. At some points, the spoken-word’s progression could not give out that better result on the rhythm as expected of the feel. Also, the basic rule of concord was not missed out while voicing out a statement.
Also, pictures bused in this video should have been ones that give more emotional appeal. However, all this doesn’t diminish the poet’s employment of his own stylistic features which makes him creative.
Ayomide D’Great “To beautify an ugly World” is an inspiring and deep-thinking spoken-word piece with a reflective voice which combines social commentary, poetic imagery, and advocacy. Instead of lamentations about humanity’s divisions, his work calls for reconciliation. Also, it reminds us all as humans that choosing love, unity over all we face or above all negativity keeps the universe in safe hands.
