Redefining African Luxury: Glory Peters’ Mission to Preserve Craftsmanship
By Salami Adeyinka
The Founder and Creative Director of Glowtarz House of Vogue, Glory Peters is redefining what it means to combine African heritage with luxury fashion.
Born in Akwa-Ibom State, Nigeria, Peters has long been inspired by the region’s rich cultural tapestry, from its vibrant Nsobo prints to ceremonial textures and intricate handcrafts.
Now in March 2024, she continues to lead her brand with a focus on heritage and global relevance as she prepares to unveil her latest collection, Eko-Akwa Elegance, an ambitious fusion of traditional Akwa Ibom craftsmanship and modern global silhouettes, signaling a new chapter for Nigerian luxury fashion.
Her journey began with a simple but powerful vision: to create fashion that tells stories. “Fashion is more than clothing; it is culture, identity, and empowerment,” she explains. “Each piece we create tells a story, honors our traditions, and inspires confidence in those who wear it.”
She founded Glowtarz House of Vogue not only to design luxury apparel but to shine a spotlight on the artistry of her community and empower women artisans along the way.
“Every piece produced under her brand reflects this ethos, blending heritage-inspired prints, raffia accents, and embroidery with contemporary gowns, jumpsuits, and blazers,” says Peters.
Her work has caught international attention; Glowtarz House of Vogue was featured on platforms such as The Roll Showcase in London, and has styled influential women across Africa and Europe.
Despite challenges, the founder said she remained steadfast. “Balancing traditional craftsmanship with modern luxury is no easy feat,” she emphasised. “Sourcing authentic materials, mentoring artisans, and maintaining high-quality standards while scaling internationally requires patience and persistence.” These hurdles have strengthened her commitment to preserving culture while innovating for global appeal.
At the heart of Glowtarz is empowerment. Peters employs and mentors women artisans, giving them professional opportunities and a platform to hone their skills. The Eko-Akwa Elegance collection exemplifies this mission, celebrating heritage while supporting sustainable employment and skill development. “Through every collection, I aim to uplift our artisans and ensure that African luxury fashion makes a positive impact in our communities,” she added. By doing so, she hopes to preserve Akwa-Ibom’s cultural craft traditions and positions Nigerian fashion as a global leader in creativity and heritage-driven design.
Peters envisions a world where African designers can compete on the global stage without sacrificing authenticity. She is expanding her international presence while nurturing the next generation of talent. Now in March 2024, she continues to grow Glowtarz House of Vogue, shaping perceptions of African luxury as innovative, culturally grounded, and socially conscious.
Her influence goes beyond fashion. She is actively building platforms for storytelling, cultural exchange, and artisan collaboration that connect Africa to the global fashion community. “I want our stories, our craftsmanship, and our heritage to resonate across continents,” she says. “When the world wears African luxury, it wears culture, history, and pride.”
With every new collection, Peters demonstrates that luxury fashion can be both beautiful and meaningful. Her dedication to preserving craftsmanship, empowering women, and telling African stories positions her as a leading voice in global fashion, proving that heritage and modernity can coexist seamlessly and with extraordinary impact.
