Fifty family members of deceased police officers who served in the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have received the sum of N20.8 million under the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Family Welfare Scheme.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP. Olatoye Durosinmi, handed over the cheques to the beneficiaries at the weekend.

Durosinmi, who presented the cheques on behalf of the IGP Usman Baba Alkali, noted that the monumental loss of the fallen heroes were incomparable to the value of the cheques.

He said the donation was the IGP’s way of saying that he felt their pains, adding that the welfare package was aimed at ameliorating the hardship being experienced by the families of those who died in active service.

The commissioner of police, who condoled with the deceased families, urged them to reciprocate the kind gesture of the IGP by making judicious use of the money for the benefit of their families and be assured of the support of the Command at all times.
