FG charges civil servants to adopt performance management system

The Federal Government has urged the civil servants to adopt implementation of Performance Management System to develop, enhance and sustain performance and results oriented culture in the civil service. 

The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, said this will raise standard of achievements to new heights, increase their moral, motivation and engagement at achieving efficiency in the service.

Adamu stated this in his keynote address during the celebration of year 2022 Civil Service Day celebration on Tuesday, in Abuja.

According to him, Civil Service Day is celebrated at recognising the key role and contributions of the Civil Service to national development in line with the 

African Union (AU)1994 adoption of June 23rd as the African Public/Civil Service Day ( APSD ) at Tangier, Morocco, as well as raising the image of the service by motivating Civil Servants and rewarding excellence.

Adamu added that PMS is a mechanism for tracking the performance of employees consistently and measurably at work place. 

 He further said that PMS allows the establishment to ensure that employees and departments across the organization are working effectively towards achieving organizational goals. “I am to state here that Staff of my Ministry have been undergoing training on PMS at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria PSIN) and recently , we conducted a retreat in Lagos on PMS for which all Directors as well as MD’s, DG’s of Agencies under the supervision of my Ministry were in attendance and it was very rewarding.” 

 He charged Staff of his Ministry to be PMS compliance because its implementation will result in positive changes that will enhance their capacity for optimal performance in their duty posts. As he put it ” a lot of changes are expected from you such as Un-learning old habits and learning new ones, and it will not be business as usual. Hence, it is my advice that with everyone of us constituting a part of this ministry, your positive contributions will lead to results and achievements that will  definitely leave an indelible mark in the History of the service. “

While advising the Staff of his Ministry to be hard working, dedicated and committed to their work, the Minister noted that the Public Service remains the most potent and viable instrument available all over the world for the fomulation and implementation of policies and programmes of government charging them also to avail themselves the opportunity the service provides for greater service delivery.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of water resources Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, in her opening remark reiterated that the historic event was in Commemoration of 2022 Civil Service award noting that the selection was based on merit and attitude to work.

She commended the awardees for their hard work, dedication, competence and exceptional level of commitment in the discharge of their duties.

She said: ” Your Award and Recognition has thrown you up as persons to whom more responsibilities could be entrusted”.

She therefore, urge them to roll-up their sleeves for greater responsibilities in the Ministry and the Federal Civil Service.
