Ten days after the conclusion of the Building a Digital Delta event, it has emerged as the most impactful tech initiative in the Niger Delta region this month. The two-day event, held on the Clubhouse App on April 4th and 6th, was hosted by the Delta Tech Community & Warri Tech Hub, drawing over 250 participants eager to explore the opportunities within the tech industry.
The initiative aimed to introduce young people to technology, foster innovation, and create pathways for career development in digital fields. The event’s success was marked by its record attendance and the level of engagement from both speakers and participants.
A Growing Digital Movement
Industry experts, including Halliburton Oji and Paul Okoro, delivered keynote speeches, shedding light on how beginners can take their first steps into the world of technology. Attendees participated in discussions on how to get started in tech, learn basic digital skills, and explore career opportunities in the industry.
Jolly Akpobi, a recent secondary school graduate with no prior tech experience, shared his thoughts: “Before this event, I didn’t know where to start. The speakers explained everything so clearly, and now I feel confident about learning basic programming and digital skills.”
Similarly, Samson Okoli, a young entrepreneur looking to leverage technology, reflected on his experience: “I always thought tech was only for programmers, but I learned that there are so many areas to explore. Now, I’m interested in digital marketing and how I can use it to grow my business.”
Unprecedented Regional Impact
Since its conclusion, Building a Digital Delta has continued to generate discussions across social media and local forums. According to organizers, the event sparked interest in multiple tech initiatives, with many attendees forming study groups and applying for beginner-friendly tech courses online.
“We are overwhelmed by the positive response,” said a spokesperson from Delta Tech Community. “Our goal was to create a platform for tech conversations and skills development, and we’re seeing the ripple effects already.”
The event’s overwhelming success has positioned Delta State as an emerging hub for tech talent in the Niger Delta, with plans already in motion for follow-up workshops and boot camps.
What’s Next?
With its newfound status as a key player in regional tech development, the Delta Tech Community & Warri Tech Hub have announced plans for a Tech Bootcamp later this year, aimed at providing hands-on training for aspiring tech professionals.
