The Director General, Buhari/Osinbajo campaign Council in the 2019 presidential election in Ekiti State , Dr. Olusegun Osinkolu, has warned the leaders of the party against divisions that could make the party lose the 2022 governorship, saying: “ Winning Ekiti won’t be a tea party for the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC)”.
The APC chieftain, said the leadership of the party would have to up its game to unite all tendencies, describing the cleavages among contending forces with party leaders looking on helplessly as not only worrisome, but portends a bleak future for APC.
The APC chieftain spoke yesterday in Ayede Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State during a Christmas get-together he organised for the party members across five councils in Ekiti North Senatorial District. Ruing the pervasive divisions in Ekiti APC, which he said was weakening the party’s support base, Osinkolu said Governor Kayode Fayemi’s achievements would be rubbished if the party failed to break the succession jinx. “It will be a shame if will lose the 2022 governorship poll . Governor Fayemi has given us a lot in terms of Infrastructures and human capital development.
The only reasonable thing for us to do is to ensure that we continue with governance.
“But my fear is that we have too many deep divisions and these should be resolved. It is not going to be a tea party for us to win. In APC alone, we have about four groups.
If we can have a united front. Some members are unhappy with the system. It will be a total disaster for our victory to slip off”. Osinkolu said for the sake of sincerity and honesty, that direct primary remains the best option for Nigeria, except the current crops of leaders want to be deceptive in their dealings with the electorate. Commending Osinkolu for mobilising for the party, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Paul Omotoso, stated that the party remains one and united, adding that those accusing the State Working Committee of bias in the countdown to the governorship primary were not abreast of the happenings in the party.
“Accusation of bias against us is not genuine. God will forgive those accusing us of bias. We are assuring everybody that we are going to maintain absolute neutrality and we are working towards that. We know there are sectional interests we must protect and that we must do as a party.
“We are approaching a major election and as a family, we need a united front. We have put some committees in place to address all issues that had generated by the people to be able to work together and share the victory together” Omotoso saluted Osinkolu for empowering members despite not holding political position, urging others to emulate the unparalleled philanthropic gesture.
