Kebbi Fixes LG Elections for Feb 5

Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) has fixed February 5, 2022, to conduct elections in the 21 local government council areas of the state.

Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammed Mera, while briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi, explained that nomination forms, contact and all other relevant documents for the elections are to be made through the secretariat of KESIEC.

He said: “This is to enable political parties, stakeholders and the public to take note and commence all necessary preparation for the council elections in earnest.

“The Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission, therefore, solicits the support and cooperation of all stakeholders and the public towards conducting free, fair, credible and acceptable local government council elections across the state.”

According to a timetable by KESIEC, which was made available to journalists, the campaign by political parties is expected to commence by December 23, 2021, to February 4, 2022. Publication of names of eligible candidates is slated for January 21, 2022, while the council elections are fixed for February 5, 2022, and runoff of the elections, where necessary, will hold by February 12, 2022.

The state electoral body said 16 political parties are expected to take part in the council elections.
