The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has debunked the rumours that it has merged with the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the November 6, governorship election in Anambra State.

The National Chairman of ZLP, Mr. Dan Nwanyanwu, said yesterday that the party’s candidate, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, has the capacity to win the election.

Nwanyanwu said: “I want to say categorically and clearly too that the ZLP has not merged with any other political party in Nigeria.”

He noted that the clarification became necessary following the exit of former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, from the party.

“ZLP is still a political party. We have not merged because merging into another political party is not something that could be done through the back door. A lot of people have expressed concern and some have carried rumours regarding Anambra State election that due to the exit of His Excellency, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, from our party to PDP, that the entire party has joined PDP, that is the biggest lie from the pit of hell,” he said.

The chairman, therefore, called on party members to ignore the rumour being spread by people who are not comfortable with the strides the party is making.

Nwanyanwu stressed: “They think, particularly in Anambra State, that they will get some mileage in the Saturday, November 6 election. For those in Anambra State, we, ZLP still have our candidate intact. Go and vote, don’t listen to rumours. There is no iota of truth in the information.”
