No fewer than N22 billion have been so far spent on executing various water projects across 27 local government areas in Jigawa State.
The State Commissioner of Water Resources, Mr. Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa, dropped the hint yesterday while responding to journalists during a media engagement forum that was organised by Jigawa State Correspondent Chapel held at Manpower Development Institute, Dutse.
Giwa stated that N22 billion has been spent on water projects since the resumption of present administration of Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
According to him, six years back when the present administration came into power only 40 percent of water schemes in the state were working.
But the coming of Governor Badaru has seen the execution of 449 new solar schemes under stowa, 15 new water schemes provided under water board and over 30,000 water hands pumps are constructed.
Giwa added that about 284 water hand pumps were converted to solar, adding 60 to 90 per cent of water schemes in the state would be on solar systems in 2022.
He also said that 18 out 27 local governments in the state have been declared free from open defecation by the UNICEF.
The commissioner then commended Governor Badaru for this achievement adding that it was achieved because of his political will and his zeal to provide better life to his people.
