Court Remands Two in Ekiti for Raping Teenager, Food Vendor

Magistrate Mojisola Salau of the Ado Ekiti State Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of one Alabi Wale in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, for allegedly raping a teenager.

Magistrate Salau said that remanding the defendant would allow the Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Sodiq Adeniyi, to forward the duplicate case file to the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions, for legal advice.

Wale was reasonably suspected to have raped a 19- year old girl on 22th September, 21, at her residence in Ado Ekiti.

The rape victim said in her statement to the police that the defendant alongside his friend, Ifeoluwa, now at large, busted into their apartment around 10:00p.m. with axe and knife, threatening to kill her, if she dares shout and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her thereafter.

The accused person was later arrested by members of the OPC and handed over to the police.

The matter had been adjourned to October 25, for mentioning.

In the same vein, Magistrate Salau, ordered a 32-year old bricklayer, Mr. Amos Jacob, to be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre.

Amos was suspected to have raped a 45 year food vendor at their residence in Ado Ekiti, in the presence of her children.

Sergeant Sodiq Adeniyi said that his file would be forwarded to office of Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The cases run contrary to Section 2 (2) of Ekiti State Gender Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019.

The matter had been adjourned to October 20, for mentioning.
