Monye Emerges First Super Eagles Supporters Club Ambassador from Delta
By Omon-Julius Onabu
Security expert and businessman, Lucky E. Monye, has emerged as a distinguished Ambassador of Nigeria’s Super Eagles Supporters Club, the first in that capacity from Delta State.
Monye was last Saturday formally decorated as Nigerian national football club ambassador at a brief but impressive ceremony held at the Orchid Hotel Asaba, by the National President, Super Eagles Supporters Club, Prince Vincent Okumagba, supported by a delegation of the Club from Lagos.
Speaking after being invested and receiving the kits of members of the Super Eagles Supporters Club, the new club ambassador thanked God for chosing him to be the centre of the historic award in the state, saying he is dedicating to Nigerian youths whose face he wants to represent.
The future is doomed for any nation that fails to invest in its youth because youths hold the jet to the future of any nation, Monye, who is also the Managing Director of Monaco Oil, said.
Monye stated that he ventured into politics in 2017 because he was not satisfied with the way politics was being played to the detriment of the youths in his locality, hence he had sought an opportunity to represent his area in the Delta State House of Assembly in his quest for better service to his people.
Monye said, “Ambassador of Super Eagles Supporters Club is providential; it is not ordinary. That a small man like me would be nominated as ambassador of the big, influential club I have known all my life could only be the work of God Almighty. It is not by human effort, it is also not by error but by design. So, I thank God so, so much for the honour and privilege.
“I also see service to the Super Eagles as service to youths because the Super Eagles represent the youths of this country. And, I have come to realize that there is nothing as good and as qualitative as giving somebody hope. So, for this great confidence reposed in me, I’ll continue to support the Super Eagles. And, I’ll continue to give them hope, encourage them and ensure that light shines on their path for the benefit of all, for a country that neglects its youth is a country living in self-denial.”
He also commended the Chief Executive of Peace Airline for the patriotic and inspiring message to the Super Eagles players before the last World Cup qualifying match against Cape Verde, pledging his unflinching solidarity with national football team come rain, come shine.
The National President of the Super Eagles Supporters Club, Prince Okumagba, noted that what stands the Club out from ordinary fans of the national football team was the doggedness and never-say-die spirit that make them sing and dance till the final blast of the referee’s whistle even at a time the team may be losing a match.
“We are different, we are not just fans but we are supporters; we are never downcast but keep hoping and believing that a miracle”, he said, noting that even when the Super Eagles were a goal or two down, “the trumpets and drums are the only thing you continue to hear.”
While thanking the nation’s football authorities, the NFF for their support and encouragement during the last match against Cape Verde, Okumagba noted that the over 10,000-member strength of the Super Eagles Supporters Club always ensure that the club is able to be wherever the Super Eagles are playing, whether or not there are sponsors.
Such undaunted spirit is what led to such miraculous outings of the Super Eagles, like in the Olympics and what is now known as the Miracle of Damman in Saudi Arabia.

The event attracted nemerous football lovers, particularly the Super Eagles fans, from far and wide as well as business and political associates of the new supporters club ambassador and eminent sons and daughters of Ika ethnic extraction, including the founder and Chairman of Monaco Oil, Elder Sunny Monye.
Elder S.M. Monye, who described himself as a detribalised citizen, noted that he had attended schools and work in all the geopolitical zones of Nigeria, revealing that he actually set up and incorporated Monaco Oil company while living in Kano.
A mini fundraising session to support the Super Eagles Supporters club was also held during the investiture ceremony of Lucky Ehimuogwu Monye as the Club’s ambassador.
