THT, Experts Harps on Innovation, Resilient Healthcare Delivery Post Covid-19

Total Health Trust (THT) Limited and health experts have advocated for effective innovation and resilience healthcare delivery Post- COVid-19 as recent pandemic erupted businesses and healthcare delivery across the globe.

On the heels of the Post-COVID-19 pandemic, the company in Lagos at its 2021 Providers’ Forum with a theme, “Creating Impact in Chaos: Healthcare Resilience Lessons Post Covid-19,” had a discussion with health experts on the need for effective healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

Delivery his opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer, Total Health Trust (THT), Godden Kieran noted that: “global economies and businesses emerged from the scourge of the pandemic, innovation and resilience becomes extremely important for growth and sustainability.

“As healthcare providers, you remain at the forefront of this development. The world is depending on the success and resilience of the health sector to breathe light into the darkness, and perhaps, return to the moments we all shared freely without physical distancing.”

He said the 2021 Providers’ Forum is critical to the company as it helps the company understands key challenges facing health providers across the country.
He added, “These discussions are important to us at THT as they help us understand your challenges and how we can work together with you to make Nigeria Healthier. A healthier Nigeria is good for us all, good for the economy and good for business. Our purpose revolves around this and you, our provider partners, are an integral part of this mission.”

Speaking virtually at the forum, health expert at the Department of Community Health & Primary Health Care College of Medicine University of Lagos, Prof Akin Osibogun called on key stakeholders in the healthcare sector to strengthen the health system for improved performance and response to pandemic.

According to him: “To prevent, detect and respond to biological and other threats to health, a resilient and sustainable health system is required. A sustainable health system is one built on local capabilities and realisable local potentials such that the community can maintain the system at all stages of its socio-economic development.”

He hinted that weak health systems make it impossible to attain national health goals and are also a threat to global health security.

In his presentation titled, “Building Back Better: Improving Healthcare Delivery Post-Pandemic In Nigeria,” he challenged key stakeholders to develop a health system that is strong for all times and has capabilities to meet the needs of the present while anticipating and preparing for the future.

He highlighted inadequacy of health human resources management – relative unemployment of health workers even in the presence of poor worker/population ratios; increasing inter-professional rivalry due to unclear job definitions or at times crass opportunism; Insufficient public health financing of basic inputs for service delivery and weak supporting public utilities key issues facing the sector.

For the country to build blocks of resilient health systems, he highlighted good governance, service delivery, health workforce access to essential medicines, financing and health information system including effective disease surveillance as major conditions.

The head, Provider Management, THT, Dr. Chinyeaka Aguboshim in her presentation titled, “Creating Impact in Chaos”, said the forum offered the company opportunity to interact with providers, generating useful insights from the interaction to help forge better in partnerships.

While speaking on basic lessons for healthcare resilience in chaos, she said: “By healthcare resilience, we mean the ability to healthcare providers to absorb chaos, adapt lessons learnt and re-organise in order to continue delivering needed services in a timely manner.

Presenting his presentation on “Creating Impact in Chaos: Healthcare Resilience Lessons Post COVID-19”, he said those in the health sector must re-evaluate, innovate, remain focused, and have the information needed to tackle chaos.
