Following the on-going crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC), where some members of the party are unhappy about the extended and continuous stay of the leadership of its caretaker committee, headed by the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, have called for his removal, a former member, Bauchi House of Assembly, Ibrahim Bala Hassan, has said that those calling for his removal are ignorant of the law.

Hassan, who spoke yesterday on the Morning Show of ARISE NEWS Channel, the broadcast arm of THISDAY Newspapers, explained that there was nothing wrong in appointing a care taker committee headed by the governor of a state.

According to him, the legal team had trashed this issue so many times, and have maintained there is no contravention of section 183 of the party’s constitution.

Buni said: “Most people who are on the other side of the table who are saying his leadership is illegal are ignorant of the law by not going into the nitty -gritty of how he emerged and he is operating business. They need to sit down with lawyers who are not biased to actually explain to them how Governor Buni is still the acting caretaker committee chairman of the party because this is not a paid job, he was asked to come and do it.

“I know there are a lot of diverse legal opinions about this, I am not a lawyer but I know he is doing his best and his team is working to ensure that there is a transition from the caretaker commuter to elected executives of the party.”

“He has made it clear times without number that plans are on-going to handover to a duly elected leadership of the party,

after the completion of the national convention,” Hassan said.

Reacting to the supreme court’s ruling that faulted Governor Buni’s caretaker committee, Hassan made clarifications that APC as a party was vindicated by the supreme court judgement.

He said: “As in the case of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, three against four and in any case around the world, by the time you have the majority, definitely, you are vindicated.People are trying to create problems where there are none. I know some of our party chieftains are actually not happy with some of the developments that is happening within the party seeing Governor Mai Mala Buni still in acting capacity.

“But I think the legal team is doing its best and the legality of the care taker committee under the governor is a settled issue and I don’t think the Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo who is a lawyer and other senior advocates who are members of the party, will allow any kind of disaster to happen to the party. I am very optimistic that we will overcome all these issues very soon.”
