Bauchi Gov Visits Flood Victims, Donates Relief Materials
From: Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed yesterday visited communities ravaged by a recent flood in Kirfi Local Government Area (LGA) and delivered two truckloads of rice and maize to the victims.
Addressing the victims at Cheledi, the governor said that the state government would take inventory of the property and farmland lost in the disaster with a view to providing them with more assistance.
He said: “We are going to take inventory of properties, including animals and other things that were swept away by the flood so that as a government we will provide assistance.”
Mohammed said though it was not possible for one to recover all that was lost, the state government would provide the victims with relief materials to cushion their hardship.
While sympathising with the affected communities, the governor said a technical committee would be constituted to take proper assessment of the damage caused by the flood.
The governor said the committee would comprise traditional leaders and political representatives of the area, noting that the state government would report the incident to the federal government in order to get assistance for the victims.
According to him, we know that President Muhammadu Buhari is the president of the masses who has a listening ear. We believe he is going to assist his people without delay.
Mohammed announced the donation of two truckloads of rice and maize to victims, adding that the state government would send blankets and other relief materials to them.
