FG Cancels FEC, Police Council Meetings in Memory of Attahiru, Others
By Olawale Ajimotokan
The federal government yesterday announced the cancellation of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting scheduled for tomorrow and the Police Council meeting slated for Thursday in honour of the memory of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other senior military officers and service men.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, announced the calling off of the meetings in a statement issued yesterday.
He said the FEC meeting would now hold on June 2 while the Police Council meeting would take place the following day.
Mustapha said the postponement followed earlier directive by President Muhammadu Buhari for the national flag to fly at half-mast nationwide for three day in addition to the declaration of yesterday as work-free day for members of the Armed Forces.
The statement said the president urged all citizens to use the period of mourning to pray for the repose of the souls of the departed and strength for the family to bear the painful loss
