A former Group News Editor with THISDAY Newspapers, Lagos, and now the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun, has been conferred with the prestigious Certificate of Excellence in Public Relations, Corporate Governance Category, by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

The award was presented to Akogun at this year’s edition of the National Spokespersons’ Award in Abuja.

The event climaxed the maiden edition of the National Spokespersons’ Summit held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, between March 25 and March 27, 2024.

Akogun, who joined the services of the University of Ilorin in 2012, was one of the finalists shortlisted from all over the country for the fourth National Spokespersons’ Award.

His nomination, according to the organisers, was based on the recognition of his outstanding contributions towards the polishing of the good image of the university over the years.

In an interview with journalists in Ilorin yesterday on the sideline of the ceremony, Akogun expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for making it possible.

He also thanked the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), and the three past vice chancellors of the university, Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, and Prof. Suleiman Age Abdulkareem, as well as the generality of the university community, for the support he has been enjoying from them in the performance of his duties.

Akogun specifically thanked his colleagues at the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, for their cooperation over the years, which, he said, culminated in the continuously rising profiles of the university at local, national and international levels.

The veteran journalist also thanked the immediate past Chairperson of the Kwara State Chapter of the NIPR and NIPR Council Member, newly elevated Prof. Saudat Abdubaqi, who he said, facilitated the formalisation of his NIPR’s membership.

He also thanked the university’s accredited pressmen, whom he described as wonderful partners-in-progress.

Akogun assured the management of the university that he would continue to do his best towards enhancing the good image of the institution among its internal and external publics.
