Niger Govt Takes Delivery of Additional 2,000 Equipment to Boost Food Production

 The Niger State Government has taken delivery of additional 2,000 agricultural equipment to scale up agricultural production in line with the federal government’s policy on food security.


The state had engaged in specialised agro support initiative, working with Origin Group, a diversified agriculture value chain group firm, and Campo Company of Brazil, under the Total Agricultural Support Programme (TASP).
The equipment received included 500 large capacity tractors,500 harvesters of varying capacities and 1,000 different agricultural and irrigation equipment as well as farm implements.


The programme which further seeks to support 50,000 hectares of fully irrigated food production hubs in the state, will help to scale up its desire to deepen food production, wealth creation, and employment opportunities for its teeming population.


A statement by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim, stressed that the landmark initiative when fully implemented will eradicate drudgery including 50 per cent post-harvest and revenue losses by farmers.


 The State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, popularly referred to as the “farmer governor” has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the agricultural revolution of the state and his desire to make it the agricultural hub of the country.
