Heartland Go in Search of First League Win against Bayelsa Utd

With no win after seven matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Heartland FC of Owerri are determine to record their first league victory as the Naze millionaires welcome Bayelsa United to the Dan Anyiam, Stadium, Owerri in one of the Matchday 8 fixtures.

Both teams lost their last weekend’s encounters and would be determine to get to winning ways. While Heartland lost on the road to Enugu Rangers 2-0 in the Oriental derby, Bayelsa United let down their supporters as they were beaten at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenegoa by high-flying Lobi Stars.

In a chat with THISDAY, head coach of the Naze Millionaires, Christian Obi, said he’s optimistic of his side carting away all the three points at stake after undeservedly losing to Rangers last weekend in the Oriental derby.

“The boys put up a very heroic performance against Rangers but were unlucky to have lost in such a manner. However, they are determine to build on that and consolidate with Bayelsa’s visit on Wednesday. We will definitely walk our way from the bottom as that is not our place,” an optimistic Obi said.

Heartland are currently at the bottom of the table with four points resulting from four draws, three losses, and zero wins, while  Bayelsa United is in the 19th position, with six points, having lost five and won two matches.

Bayelsa United have lost their last 5 away league games and on a poor run of just one win in 12 away matches and have failed to score a single goal in their last three away Premier League games.

The match, earlier billed to be held today, coincidentally falls on election day in Imo and Bayelsa States.

A statement signed by the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, dated Wednesday, 8, 2023, said the match had been postponed till Wednesday  November 15.

“Sequel to the governorship elections in Imo and Bayelsa state, kindly be informed that the above matchday eight fixture has been rearranged for Wednesday November 15, 2023.

“Please ensure that necessary logistics are in place for a hitch-free game. The above is for your information and continuous compliance. Accept the assurances of our warm and esteemed sporting regards,” the statement read.
