Homeland recognition is one way to measure one’s worth and value. Considering this yardstick, the value of the daughter of President Bola Tinubu, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, is well above that of her peers. After all, despite living far away from Kogi State, she has gotten its people to recognise her.
Social media is currently abuzz with the news of Folashade bagging a traditional title in Kogi state. The title, Aware Oja of Okunland, was given by the largest faction of Yoruba origin in the state. The award indicates an acknowledgement of Folashade’s prestige and authority in all things commerce.
The new Aware Oja of Okunland announced the good news herself. According to her, she was only travelling to Kabba in Kogi when she decided to stop and say hello to the state’s first family. She was then received by the governor, Yahaya Bello, and his wife, Rashidat.
However, the main award given by the people of Okunland came about in Kabba on Sunday, August 27, 2023. The monarch of the land, called the Obaaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, welcomed Folashade to his palace and happily awarded her the chieftaincy title. With prestigious individuals like Governor Bello and First Lady Rashidat as witnesses, not to mention notable Nollywood actor, Saheed Balogun, it was a done deal.
Without question, the Okunland title is a source of joy for Folashade as it validates her status as the Iyaloja in Lagos. This is a position that she has been holding since July 2013. But one can describe that as a home win, quite incomparable to the Okunland title which comes as a recognition from far away.
