With a release date slated for August 18 and a fascinating trailer heralding the movie ‘The Modern Woman’, fans of actress Sharon Ooja will get to see her deliver on her role couple of weeks after she reacted to the public outrage, dissociating herself from the film following a “false narrative” used to promote the movie.
Recall that the delectable screen star had addressed the backlash against the Yomi Black’s directorial 24 hours after the poster and provocative synopsis of the feature film made the rounds online on June 3, 2023, as people pointed out the problematic tagline which she described as “false narrative”.
Not long after her public statement, Black took to his Instagram page to share a new synopsis: “A young woman’s carefully balanced life, torn between career, family, and love, spirals into chaos when she faces the devastating loss of her pregnancy. In a fight to reclaim her identity, she must navigate a treacherous path towards self-discovery, challenging societal norms, and embracing her own truth.”
The film boasts a stellar cast, with Sharon in the lead role, alongside Timini Egbuson.
Others on the cast list include Bimbo Akintola, Ebere Nwizu, Chinoso Arubayi, Juliet Ibrahim, Nene Nwanyo, and Kammel Audu. Written and produced by Yomi Black and Anita Danjamic as its executive producer. Yomi Black is an actor and filmmaker, best known for his role in the popular online comedy skit series “Sunday & Lolade”.
“The Modern Woman” reflects real-life stories of the pain women face after the loss of a pregnancy and promises to break into small pieces the emotions. It also goes further by displaying how this agony leads the main cast on a road to loathe and contempt. It will be interesting to see how this story unfolds, and how the audience will perceive it.
Speaking on the film earlier, Black said: ‘This story has been in development since January 2022 and I’m super excited to work on this because the story is based on real-life events. It is my team and I that are telling this story which is more important than any backlash. With Seyi Babatope as our director of photography, you should know what to expect.”
