Families of 20 Police operatives who either died or sustained varying degree of injuries in the course of discharging their duties yesterday received cheques worth N42.1 million in Nasarawa State.

The gesture was an initiative of the Inspector General (IG) of Police Group Personal Accident and Group Life Assurance geared towards improving the living standard of families of Police operatives that lost their lives in the line of duty.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Ramhan Nansel.

Nansel said the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, presented the N42.1 million cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to families of the deceased police officers and officers who sustained injuries during the discharge of their duty.

“While presenting the cheques, CP Baba empathised with the beneficiaries and appreciated the IG for his love, service to humanity and contribution to support and bring succour to the families of officers who died in active service/officers who sustained injury as a result of accident or any inherent hazard of police job experienced in the course of discharging their duty.

“He urged them to invest the token in a profitable venture that will inturn, carter for the families left behind,” Nansel said.
