Immigration Service Suspends Two for Trafficking of Persons

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended two of its personnel who have been found wanting for trafficking of persons abroad. 

The affected personnel are Araoyinbo Oluwwadare (SII) and Awosanmi Taiwo Gabriel (IA1) who were alleged to  have been caught in the culpable act at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos.

In a statement released by the service and signed by its spokesperson, Sunday James, it stated that the affected personnel have been suspended, pending investigations which is in line with service rules and regulations.

He said: “Following the incident of an alleged attempt by the above mentioned personnel at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Ikeja to aid and abet trafficking of some persons abroad, the Comptroller General, Muhammad Babandede, has ordered their suspension from duties with immediate effect in line with service rules and regulations.

“The suspension is to allow for detailed investigation into the issue with a view to unravelling their level of culpability and indeed other syndicates involved in the act.

“The comptroller general therefore assures the public of management’s commitment to the eradication of smuggling of migrants and trafficking of persons activities in the country,” he said. 

The service had pledged‎ its unalloyed willingness to work for Nigerians and has made commitment to flush out bad eggs from the service based on the mandate it has been given.
