A Night With Aisha Buhari

The Nigerian champion of education, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, wife of the President, will be hosted by Blaugrana International Group and National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) today at a high octane night event, where UNICEF will also present to her a special commendation award for her strong commitment to advance children’s rights in Nigeria. Also, there will be fund raising for quality education and for the betterment of women and the children from poor background in the society.

The event which will take place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, is expected to be graced by those in the corporate and political spheres. In a pre-event media chat in Lagos, Chairman, Blaugrana Group International, Mr. Leslie Oghomienor, reiterated that eminent Nigerians expected at the event include the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, as Special Guest of Honour; the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the Royal Father of the Day; and Her Excellency, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, wife of the Senate President, as the Chairperson to mention but a few.

This platform provides opportunity for individuals, responsible corporate citizens, international organisations or agencies and government at all levels, even religious bodies, to help achieve the desired change in Nigeria, particularly in the children education sector, which is the bedrock of a sustainable development in all areas of the nation’s life.

In his contribution, Mohammed Fall, Country Representative, UNICEF Nigeria, said that the funds that would be realised would be channeled through UNICEF, Future Assured Programme, the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) and other worthy novel courses that will further the vision of The Legends For Children Project.

According to him, wife of the President would be presented with the global prestigious UNICEF Special Commendation Award of Excellence for humanitarian service in recognition of her selfless service to humanity through the well acclaimed Future Assured Programme.

“We are very excited and overwhelmed that after a thorough appraisal and rigorous screening, Her Excellency, stood tall among her competitors. This is UNICEF own way of saying continue with the good work and in appreciation of her humane selfless service to various communities devoid of any attachment. Thus, we will continue to support enviable humanitarian courses,” he said.

In her remarks, Barrister Mary Ekpere-Ita, DG, NCWD, said that, “the Nigerian situation, is beyond the strength of government. Therefore, to attain the anticipated future, is a collective responsibility, irrespective of the divide. Getting involved, in solving the abound education challenges, guarantees a brighter, peaceful, viable and a sustainable society. In the light of this, it is our reponsibility to get involved and that is the only way the future is assured.”
