A non-governmental organisation, Advocacy For Good Governance, has called on Ebonyi State Government to immediately upgrade the 13 general hospitals to provide efficient healthcare service delivery to the people and save the hospitals from imminent collapse.

The group advised the state government to develop a strategic master plan to revive the health sector by equipping the general hospitals for efficient healthcare service delivery in the state.

In a press conference in Abakaliki, the state capital, the Ebonyi State Coordinator of the group, Comrade Okenwa Uka who disclosed this also called on the government to relocate the South-east Virology Centre situated at the Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki to a secluded environment so that patients of Lassa fever admitted in the centre would not infect others in the hospital.

He stressed that the group was formed to enthrone positive change and to ensure that the tenets of democracy and accountability are entrenched in the present administration of Governor David Umahi.

Ukah emphasised that the platform was not to antagonise the Umahi’s-led administration but it was expedient to redirect the focus of the administration to suite interests and demands of the people.

Another member of the group, Prince Uche Ali Ega called on the state government to immediately convene a stakeholders meeting to address all the perennial issues affecting the state.
