Troops Thwart Boko Haram Attempted Attack in Borno Village

•Clear bandits, rustlers’ camps in Zamfara

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole accompanied by Civilian JTF successfully thwarted an attempt by Boko Haram terrorists on Monday to attack Yauri Community at the outskirts of Maiduguri city, Borno State, the military claims.

The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Tuesday that  the troops killed five of the attackers and recovered several weapons during the encounter.

He listed the items recovered to include two AK-47 rifles,  General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), one 60mm Mortar Tube,  Fabrique Nationale (FN) rifle, two Dane guns,  AK-47 rifle magazines, FN rifle magazines, and 131 rounds of 7.62mm  (NATO) ammunition.

He also said that 31 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunitions, a 60mm Bomb and the sum of N31,275.00 were recovered from the terrorists.

The DAPR assured members of the public that the general area is calm, while troops have deployed to maintain security in the village and environs.

In another development, Usman stated that troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army involved in anti-cattle rustling and anti-banditry operations  in Zamfara State on Monday cleared suspected rustlers camps in parts of Zamfara state.

He said that despite poor weather and rugged terrain, the troops were able to carry out the clearance operations on suspected armed bandits hideouts in some forests within Zamfara State.

He said that the security forces carried ou the raids  at Batara and Ajah forests in Birnin Magaji and Gusau Local Government Areas (LGA), Zamfara State.

Although the armed bandits fled the camps, he said,  the troops destroyed the camps, recovered three motorcycles and two mobile telephone handsets.

“They further raided Rimawa forest in Gusau LGA where they arrested 2 wanted armed bandits, Aliyu Abubakar and Umar Ibrahim,” he stated.
