Tinubu Presides Over Maiden 2024 FEC Meeting

* Swears in RMAFC member for Rivers

President Bola Tinubu is currently presiding over the maiden 2024 Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

Shortly before the commencement of the meeting, the president administered oath of office on Ambassador Desmond Akawor as the new Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) representing Rivers State.

Akawor replaced Asondu Wenah Temple, the former RMAFC Federal Commissioner from Rivers State, who passed on recently.

The rescheduling of the first council meeting of the year was approved by President Tinubu, as initial date of Monday, January 15, 2024, coincided with the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The meeting is being attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume;  Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

All cabinet members apart from Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Ministers of Finance, Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy who are representing the country at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, are absent. 

The seats of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Betta Edu and that of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Hon. Simon Lalong, who resigned to take up his seat at the Senate, remain unoccupied. 

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is also absent from the council meeting.
