The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) would strengthen collaboration with the Kano business community in Kano State as part of the effort to minimise bottlenecks in the exportation business in the Northwest region.
The Managing Director and the Chief Executive Officer of the NEPC, Nonye Ayeni, disclosed this during an official tour to selected companies and an interactive session with Northwest business communities held in Kano.
She said NEPC would be providing a level playing ground for the exporters to bring out issues and bottlenecks, being faced to address them for a better business atmosphere.
The NEPC boss stressed that the council has visited the Dala Inland Dry Port and other processing companies in the state, intending to collaborate in minimising all bottlenecks in export processes.
According to her, the mandate of the NEPC is to ensure the smooth operation of exportation, as well as promote export activities that will increase the country’s GDP.
She pointed out that the council would ensure the adoption of measures that would reduce port decongestion during exportation processes, the establishment of a state-of-the-art laboratory, and an additional fumigation centre among others.
Ayeni said: “We are committed to increasing the volume of our foreign exchange by setting a robust laboratory across the country that would have the latest packaging facilities so that our exporters would have easy access in formalising local goods into export.”
In his opening remarks, the North-west NEPC Regional Coordinator, Mr. Salami Moruff Akinshola, revealed that in 2022, agricultural products worth about N31 billion informally left Nigerian borders to neighbouring countries, describing it as a huge loss to the Nigerian economy.
