USAID Conducts Public Financial Management Dialogue in Sokoto

The third edition of Sokoto State’s quarterly public financial management roundtable with the theme “Improving Compliance to State Financial Regulation and Audit Queries,” has unraveled the impediments to revenue collection.

The one day meeting, which was organised by USAID State Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness (State2State) Activity, for accountants, cashiers of government ministries and agencies, also deliberated on the implications and solutions of impediments on the implementation of the 2023 approved budget. The USAID Public Financial Management Specialist, Mr. Usman Faleye, who spoke on the objective of the dialogue, listed the seven pillars of budget preparation and the essence of timely retirement of impress.

After the recap of the last quarter’s dialogue, papers were presented on summary of 2022 Audit Queries’ in relation to timely impress/advance retirements; responsibility of accountants/cashier in ensuring internal control and presentation on reoccurring internal control issues across MDAs in the state.

Other papers presented included filing of monthly expenditure reports to enhance timely budget performance computation; quarter three budget performance report; open discussion; questions, answers and reactions.
