Broombreed Schools, a private school in Port Harcourt, Rivers, has celebrated 25 years of excellence in the education industry.

The school, the first Google Reference School in Nigeria, is staffed with Google Certified Educators as teachers and over 700 students from crèche level to high school with the option of attending a boarding or day campus.

It was founded in 1998 by the late Mrs Olufunke Sunmonu and has been under the care of her daughter, Bola Njideofor and the Chairman, Mr Mutiu Sunmonu, following her death in 2017.

Speaking at the 25th-anniversary ceremony of the school held in Port Harcourt at the weekend, Njideofor revealed that Broombreed won an outstanding Cambridge Learner Award and also the winner of the CONRAD Challenge Scholarship since 2021 for 71 students to study in the USA.

She said, “In the 2022 Acceliun Mind Olympics Global Competition, Bloombreed Schools emerged 1st in Nigeria and 9th out of over 50 countries globally. Bloombreed School came first position at the state level and first position at the south-south state level and second position at the National Level of the Whizkid ICT competition. xx inBloombreed Schools came 1st position in Africa at the Manga High World Mathematics competition.”

Bola added that in the 2023 African Mathematics Olympiad Competition, Bloombreed Schools got two gold and two silver medals in the competition held across Nigeria.

“In two years, the Bloombreed schools have had 71 of their students win a $60,000 scholarship each to study at Clarkson University, New York, through participating in the annual CONRAD Science Competition,” stated Njideofor.

She further revealed that the school had been one of Shell’s preferred schools for the Shell Scholarship Scheme for providing quality education for children in rural communities via Shell’s cradle-to-career special secondary school scholarship scheme for the past nine years.

During the event, a quiz competition was organised for the parents and guests where they were allowed to download and use one of the apps developed by the students to compete. Alumni of the school were also provided a platform for reunion.

This reunion allowed them to share their experiences and success stories and acknowledge the school’s contribution to their personal and professional growth.

As part of its commitment to responsibility, the management of the Bloombreed Schools honoured their teachers and staff dedicated to their mission of transforming lives and impacting knowledge with awards in various categories.

The event’s festivities, performances, and community outreach activities demonstrated the school’s unwavering commitment to providing quality education and fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
