Tension in Imo as Gunmen Kill Soldiers, Policemen

Reported killing early Tuesday morning of some members of a joint taskforce security team in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State has created unease and tension in the LGA and surrounding areas 

 The team  in two security trucks were ambushed and set ablaze by their attackers at Umualumaku ( Orieagu and Aba branch communities. The ambush was by unknown gunmen who insisted on enforcing sit-at home in the LGA.

The joint taskforce security team comprises men and officers of the Nigerian Army,  policemen and Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC

Some of members of the team had been hospitalised at a hospital in nearby LGA.

THISDAY witnessed heavy mobilisation of men and officers of the Nigerian Army and Policemen to the area in armoured vehicles and patrol vans 

Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Command at Obowo has mounted a stop and search check point in front of it’s office along the Umuahia-Owerri road 

THISDAY reports that a  video clip of the ambush and setting ablaze of the security team is currently circulating on the social media.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO in Imo State,  Mr Henry Okoye confirmed the development but asked for time to get the full details of the incident.
