The Katsina State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (KATSACA) has distributed 3,470 HIV testing kits and other essential consumables to 347 primary healthcare centres across the state.

The items distributed included HIV reactive testing kits (RTKs), 500gms of cotton wool, 100 methylated spirit, registration booklets, HIV referral forms, monthly summary forms and patient folders.

Speaking while distributing the items to the beneficiary health facilities, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda said the gesture was to enhance the testing of HIV at the primary healthcare centres.

Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bishir Gambo-Saulawa, Radda explained that the provision of the kits would curb mother-to-child transmission of HIV and ensure that those tested positive for the virus get the needed and timely care.

Radda, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, on Tuesday reiterated that the programme also seeks to raise awareness within the community about the importance of getting tested for HIV at their nearest health facilities.

“This initiative reflects KATSACA’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people of Katsina State, as they continue to work tirelessly in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” the statement added.
