Institute Condemns  Fracas Between Soldier and LASTMA in Lagos

The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CITA), has expressed concern over the recent incident involving a soldier and a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer, which has brought public ridicule to both organisations.

The President of CITA, Mr. Segun Obayendo, yesterday said that the unfortunate confrontation, which was captured in the media, has highlighted the need for a renewed commitment for all stakeholders in the industry to advocate for professionalism, cooperation and respect among all sectors of law enforcement and public service.

Obayendo noted that CITA as a body, acknowledged the importance of maintaining order and safety on the roads, as well as the critical roles that both the military and civilian traffic management personnel play in achieving these
goals.

He said: “However, the incident in question has underscored the necessity for continuous training, communication, and collaboration among different law enforcement entities to ensure the safety of all citizens and the smooth functioning of our transport systems.”

Obayendo called on both the military and LASTMA to investigate the incident thoroughly and take appropriate disciplinary actions, if warranted, against those involved in the altercation.

He added: “In light of this regrettable incident, CITA urges all law enforcement agencies and traffic management bodies to engage in cross-training programs that foster mutual understanding and cooperation by working together, sharing insights, and leveraging each other’s expertise.

“We can create an environment that upholds the principles of law, order, and public service while minimising conflicts that can undermine the reputation of both organsations.”
