PDP, Obaseki Celebrate Gusau’s 80th Birthday

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, yesterday celebrated elder statesman, former Minister of Defence, former National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Aliyu Mohammed Gusau (rtd) as he marks his 80th birthday


In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, PDP, Debo Ologunagba, the party described Gusau as a remarkably patriotic leader, courageous Military Officer and committed democrat, who played key roles, alongside other leaders in restoring democratic governance in 1999 and remains steadfast towards the unity, stability and development of the nation.


Ologunagba said “Through his career in the Military, National Security and Public Service, including as the Commander of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Chief of Army Staff, Minister of Defence and National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Gusau distinguished himself as a patriot who puts the interest and wellbeing of the nation above every other consideration.


“Despite his towering attainments, Gen. Gusau remains a humble, accessible, very committed democrat and partyman who continues in his relentless contributions towards the deepening of democracy in Nigeria in line with the manifesto of the PDP and the visions of our founding fathers.”
Also, Obaseki in a separate statement congratulated Gusau as “he joined the esteemed league of octogenarians.”


According to him, “At 80 years, you have made immense contributions to the development of Nigeria, serving as a high-ranking military officer and also an adviser to several presidents, ensuring that the country is held together as a strong, united and progressive nation.
“A respectable elder statesman, you have made sacrifices for the survival of Nigeria and continue to deploy your intellect for the growth and advancement of our dear nation.”

He added: “As you mark your 80th birthday, I celebrate your unwavering belief in Nigeria and wish you many more years in good health and sound mind.”
