Gunmen numbering about five at the weekend abducted a businesswoman, Mrs. Uduak Akpan, an indigene of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The woman, residing in Ata-Idung Afaha Eket of Eket LGA of the state, was reportedly abducted at the husband’s business premises.

An eyewitness said the victim was abducted at the husband, Mr. Umana Akpan’s shop, while attending to customers at Umaco Shopping Centre at James Town Junction in Ata-Idung Afaha Eket at 9 p.m. on April 7.

After the abduction, the witness said the gunmen shot severally into the air to scare people within the environment in order to escape with the victim.

The husband was said to have watched the incident helplessly while the gunmen had a field day and zoomed off to an unknown destination with his wife.

Gunmen had last year stormed the residence of the husband carting away money and personal belongings, including a bus, which up till now has not been found.

While reacting, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko MacDon, said he has not received any report from the Divisional Police Station in the area.

“I have not seen or heard such information; I don’t know if they have reported the matter to the state Police Command, so I can’t comment because I don’t have such information,” MacDon declared.
