As part of a bid to end open defecation in Lagos State by 2025 as stipulated by the government, the Rotary Club of Omole Golden in Lagos has said it has embarked on advocacy and fundraising to provide public toilets at major markets and parks in the state.

The club revealed this at the investiture and fundraising ceremony of Rotarian Ganiu Lawal as the 19th president of the Rotary Club of Omole Golden held in Ikeja, Lagos State.

In his speech, Lawal said the club has also embarked on the rehabilitation of a block of four classrooms with collapsible demarcation to serve as classrooms and an examination hall at Ajuwon Senior High School, saying it would cost over N10 million to complete the project.

According to him, the club decided to take up the challenge of providing the facilities, since it was becoming increasingly obvious that the existing ones could no longer enhance teaching and learning in the school, as they were in deplorable conditions.

He said: “We want well-meaning individuals, and corporate organisations to support our proposed project for 2022-2023 Rotary year, we are equipping the Rotary Club of Omole Golden Neonatal Building at Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital for N24,755,000, and the provision of ultra-modern public toilets at major markets and motor parks at N8,700, 000.

“Also, the provision of mathematics laboratory at Oke-Ira Junior Grammar School, Ogba, at N500,000, and the promotion of menstrual hygiene and procurement of 3,000 dignity kits for girls in three public schools at N2,400,000.’’

Earlier, the outgoing president of the club, Favour Madu, said the club had before now completed the beautification and landscaping of the triangle at Isheri-Olowora junction leading to Berger-Ibadan expressway, “and we built a giant rotary wheel cenotaph with a 4-way test inscription there, and it was strategically mounted to create increased visibility for our great organisation.”

In the area of basic education and literacy, Madu said the club renovated Biology and Physics laboratories at Ajuwon Senior High School and equipped the Biology and Physics laboratories at Ajuwon Senior High School.

“The principal gladly informed us that this has greatly improved the student’s performance in their WASSCE result.

“On empowering the girl-child, we distributed sanitary pads to 300 girls in Ajuwon High School, and this project was sponsored by Hayat Kimya Nigeria, makers of Mopled sanitary pad,” he said.
