Danlami to Dalung: Leave Our Sports Alone

Former Minister of Youth and Sports development, Solomon Dalung has been told to face whatever political ambition he is nursing, instead of spewing baseless conspiracy theories about the nation’s Sports sector.

Dalung was quoted in the media as saying the two-year international ban on basketball approved by President Muhammadu Buhari was targeted at D’Tigress, the female national basketball team. “It defies logic that a former Sports Minister could spew such a conspiracy theory when the current Sports Minister pulled all stops to ensure the ladies went to Serbia for the qualifiers of the World Cup at the height of the basketball crisis”, stated Danlami Umaru.

Umaru, a basketball enthusiast, reminded Dalung that Dare would not have sourced for money for the female basketball team to travel to Serbia if he wanted to get back at them for whatever reason.

“It defies logic really for anybody to think the way Dalung did. The Sports Ministry has gotten the President’s approval to pay outstanding allowances of the players. If the ladies are complaining about unpaid bonuses, it must be the promise the NBBF made to them, which was well documented”, added  Danlami.

Dare has stated that the domestic league is the fulcrum that would give vitality to Nigerian football.

In a chat in Abuja, the minister made reference to the working model of a robust league as a critical component of football vitality in any country.
