The highpoint of events at the just concluded 9th and 10th Convocation Ceremony of Wesley University, Ondo, a faith-based institution of higher education owned by the Methodist Church, Nigeria, was the honorary awards to deserving supporters of the school with various categories of awards of excellence.
The awardees included Sir (Dr) Asuquo Inuikim Obon, KJW, honored with Doctor of Science, DSc, (Honoris Causa); His Eminence, Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Uche Kanu, The Prelate, Methodist Church, Nigeria, honored as Grand Fellow of Wesley University, Ondo, GFW while Dame Apenu Eucharia Torka was honoured with Doctor of Management, DM, (Honoris Causa), amongst other awardees.
These awardees had in one way or the other assisted the school through their philanthropic services as the awards have compelled them to do more for the school when opportunities arise.
The event which took place at High Chief (Sir) Olabanji Akiingbule Lecture Theatre, at the University’s take-off site, Km3, Ondo-Ife Road, Ondo City, witnessed the graduation of 166 students who were awarded various degrees and prizes for the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 combined convocation ceremony.
Conferring the award to Dr. Inuikim, the Chancellor of Wesley University, Ondo, Dr. Paul Enenche, Snr. Pastor Dunamis International Gospel Center, represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Obeka Samuel, said Engr. Asuquo Inuikim was awarded Doctor of Science, ‘in recognition of his numerous contributions to humanity within and outside Africa, also in the understanding of commitment to University education generally and Wesley University, Ondo, in particular.’
Dr. Inuikim is a visionary and gifted in the areas of humanitarian services, Engineering, leadership, human organization and development, and an expert in conflict resolution.
In his remarks, the elated Inuikim said he appreciated the authorities of Wesley University for the recognition bestowed on him adding that he was pleased that his services and contributions to humanity were valued.
Other Categories of awards at the ceremonies included: Prestigious Peace Leadership Award of Wesley presented to the President, Democratic Republic of Congo, His Excellency, Felix Tshisekedi, Prestigious Wesley Heritage award, presented to Prelates Emeritus, Dr. Sunday Mbang and Dr. Sunday Makinde, amongst others.
Gracing the occasion, Sir (Dr) Asuquo Inuikim Obon was joined by his wife, Lady Edak Inuikim, DC Eyo Inuikim, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Engr. Cyril Okoro, Mr. Lemmy Okon, Rev. Ifiok Ekong, Mrs. Iquo Inwang, members of Fortune Club International, Mr. Joseph Atainyang, Ms. Inemesit Ebu, Publisher, Great Achievers’ World magazine, and a host of others.
The Wesley University, Ondo has remained one of the best and renowned in the country in this category.
Over the years, the university has strived to take the school to a greater level by renovating some dilapidated structures, purchase of new vehicles, raising the standard of the library, etc.
Realising that the school cannot depend on the Church or government alone to increase its financial self-sufficiency, the university had taken steps to seek financial autonomy by implementing programmes that will affect the school positively, among which is the award programme.
