The 8th edition of the Nigeria Healthcare Excellence Awards (NHEA) is going global, as it is set to reward and celebrate excellence in healthcare delivery in Nigeria on Friday, June 24.

Organised by the Global Health Project and Resources (GHPR) in collaboration with Anadach Group, USA, NHEA is recognising and celebrating the achievements of personalities and organisations who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the nation’s health sector in the past year.

The awards, which further seek to encourage and acknowledge quality in their day-to-day delivery of health services, will afford recipients the unveiled plaque.

According to the Chairman NHEA Advisory Board, Dr Anthony Omolola, the NHEA is striving to halt medical tourism to the bearest minimum while also attracting some of Nigeria’s brains abroad back home.

“Currently, we have quite a lot of healthcare personnel leaving this country. We want to retain them,” he said, adding that “We are encouraging our colleagues in the diaspora that they can come and work in this facility that is of international standard that we can all be proud of.”

While admitting the challenges plaguing the nation, Omolola commended the efforts of healthcare facilities that give it their best to make sure the level of medical tourism in Nigeria is brought to a minimal level. “We need to appreciate them,” he noted.

For NHEA, this gesture is to depict to the world that Nigeria has some good facilities despite the many hurdles she goes through. “People can still come and visit some of these facilities for healthcare delivery and also in terms of healthcare supplies.

“We are the pioneers of the NHEA that is out to reward excellence. When you are recognised for doing better, you will want to do more.”

The chairman, however, cautioned that if they don’t acknowledge their efforts, it would egg them on to start leaving the country
