Evergreen Musical Company Partners National Theatre for Musical Contest

Through a strategic partnership, Evergreen Musical Company and the National Theatre have birthed the inaugural edition of Thrillerbandz@Theatre, a musical contest spotlighting musicians of different local Nigerian genres, with the sole purpose of elongating the legacy of Nigerian music and attracting global music executives.

Thrillerbandz@Theatre is a two-day event scheduled to hold Friday, December 17, and Saturday, December 18, and will have special appearances from the likes of Ebenezer Obey, Mike Okri, Stella Monye, and Yinka Davies.

Speaking recently at a press conference, the CEO, Evergreen Musical Company Bimbo Esho reiterated the purpose of the competition.

“The primary objective of the programme is to showcase an important aspect of our musical heritage for development into a viable cultural product. It is to ginger our local musicians and boost their compositions to reflect meaningful lyrics, stage appeal, as well as excellent music to delight music patrons, even beyond the shores of Nigeria.”

The contest will come on the heels of the second edition of Festival of Unity organised by the National Theatre.
The festival is aimed at preserving, promoting, and presenting Nigeria’s cultural heritage through an exhibition of music, dance, drama, comedy, film shows, and street carnival.

Themed ‘Enduring, Optimising,’ the sophomore edition will reflect the collective spirit of Nigerians who strive to project the nation in positive lights. According to the GM/CEO of National Theatre, Prof. Sunday E. Ododo “the tag is apt,” especially after the events of last year that was marked by the global shutdown of economies caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “We have remained optimistic,” he pointed out, referring to the unflinching spirit of his team.

Also, Garnering positive responses, both events have gained the support of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as affirmed by the Special Adviser to the Governor, Mr Solomon Bonu.
Festival of Unity is slated for Friday, December 10, and will run through to Sunday, December 12, 2021.
