AKTH Staff to Receive Award from American Society of Hematology

The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has announced that Dr. Ibrahim Musa Idris, has been selected by the American Society of Hematology (AHS) to receive the 2021 ASH Global Research Award.

In a statement issued at the weekend, AKTH disclosed that Idris one of the nine talented early-career investigators selected for the honour.

“Through the ASH Global Research Award, ASH helps ease the difficult transition researchers outside the United States and Canada by providing partial salary or other support during the critical period, allowing recipients to pursue research projects that will help them get to the next step in their careers,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the nine researchers selected for this year’s award represent 10 countries – Australia, Brazil, China, India, Italy, Nigeria, Portugal, Singapore, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The statement added that Idris will receive research support for his project titled: ‘ A Randomised Controlled Double-Blind Trial for Prevention of Ischemic Priapism in Men with Sickle Cell Anaemia: A Pilot Study’.
He is the first Nigerian to be selected for the award.
