Banditry: Zamfara NMA Urges Govt to Convene Stakeholders’ Meeting

Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called on the state government to convoke a stakeholders’ security summit to help the citizens of the state offer their contributions to tackle banditry and other forms of crimes in the state.

The call followed the expiration of the two-week ultimatum, which the association gave the state government to provide security in and around health facilities across the state, to protect health workers from being attacked or kidnapped.

The state NMA noted that it believed that the ongoing war against insecurity is everyone’s business, hence the need for the state government to convoke a stakeholders’ security summit in order to brainstorm and fashion out a workable and lasting solution to the menace.

The NMA Chairman, Dr. Mannir Bature, yesterday in Gusau, the state capital, noted that the negative impact of banditry is affecting the socio-economic and political life of the people.

He disclosed that health facilities in the state are important, and need to be secured.

The NMA boss pointed out that there is grave danger if the facilities are left unprotected, which would affect not only to health workers, but the patients as well.

Bandits had invaded the Dansadau General Hospital in Maru Local Government Area of state a few weeks ago and abducted a health attendant and caregiver.

The incident prompted the state NMA to draw the attention of the state government on the need to provide adequate security to health facilities in the state.
