I’ll Defeat Jegede in Supreme Court, Says Akeredolu

By James Sowole

The Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has boasted that he will beat his political challenger, and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Eyitayo Jegede if Jegede proceeds to the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict of the Court of Appeal on the last governorship election in the state.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the state capital, had on Wednesday upheld the victory of Akeredolu in the last election after Jegede.

Jegede had filed an appeal against the judgment of the state Election Petition Tribunal which struck out his petition against the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Akeredolu.

The PDP has, however, vowed to challenge the appeal court judgment at the apex court.

The governor, who arrived Akure yesterday and was welcomed by hundreds of supporters of the APC, expressed confidence that he will win again at the Supreme Court if Jegede, again decides to challenge the judgment of the lower court.

He said he dedicated the victory in the appellate court to God and the people of the state, adding that the litigation was an exercise in futility and a flimsy one which cannot hold water.

Addressing his supporters, Akeredolu promised them that his administration would continue to deliver dividends of good governance across the three senatorial districts.

He also stated that he is “not distracted in any way by the legal challenge,” adding that “his administration is well-focused and committed to delivering more dividends of good governance to the people of the state.”
