Borno Rice Field Killings: Sack Service Chiefs Now, Senate Tells Buhari

By Deji Elumoye in Abuja

The Senate, for the umpteenth time, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately initiate a process to replace the current service chiefs with new ones with new ideas and solutions.

The upper legislative chamber had in July, this year called on President Buhari to sack the service chiefs due to the rising wave of insecurity in the country then.

The Senate again on Tuesday urged the president to sack the service chiefs after adopting a motion moved by Senator Kashim Shettima (APC, Borno) over last weekend’s killings of 67 farmers in the state by Boko Haram insurgents.

It also called on the president to take immediate steps to restructure and remodel the country’s security architecture and provide enough state-of-the-art weapons and equipment to effectively combat the insurgents.
