Less than a year after moving to German Bundesliga, Omar Assar (EGY), has become a ‘big fish’ in the European nation as the 2015 African Games champion has joined German star – Timo Boll’s Borussia Dusseldorf.
Having plied his trade in the Swedish and French leagues before moving to Germany in 2017, Omar Assar on December 2017 signed the dotted lines for two years with Dusseldorf from Werder Bremen.
After just one season with Bremen, the 26-year-old Egyptian terminated his contract with Bremen to join Borussia Dusseldorf on a two-year contract. Omar Assar will replace Austrian Stefan Fegerl (29), in Dusseldorf.
“This is a golden opportunity for me”, says Omar Assar. Omar Assar knows that joining Dusseldorf would afford him the possibilities of training at the Olympic training center in Dusseldorf.
Having trained once or twice at the Training camps, Omar Assar currently the number 17 in the world wants to win titles, while hoping to end 2018 in the top ten in the world ranking.
Omar Assar described Bremen as a special club. “Bremen is a top club and has the best fans in the league, “says Omar Assar.”I’m very grateful to Werder Bremen that through them I was able to showcase myself in the Bundesliga.
“I am very happy to play for Borussia and hope to do my part in a successful time. But I would also like to thank the people in charge in Bremen, Sascha Greber and Cristian Tamas, for the great time. I felt very comfortable there.”
He added: “I feel great and excited to join such a great club with history. It is club with huge fans base. I am very to join the great team because I have a good friendship with Timo Boll who is a good person outside the table. I hope I can add my quality to the team and I hope to use my presence in the team to open doors for more Africans and Arabians to feature in the league,” concludes the Egyptian star player.
Borussia Manager, Andreas Preuß, said of the African star player: “Omar Assar is an international top player.
“He is number 17 in the world and will reinforce our team for the new season. He brings a lot of experience and is a great pro who always gives 200 percent, ” concludes the Borussia manager.
