By George Okoh in Makurdi

Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has  once again canvassed for good neighbourliness, fairness and justice  as needed ingredients  for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

He said irrespective  of ethnic or religious differences, Nigerians must leave as one.
“We must learn to live together as a people with common destiny and purpose.”
Mark spoke at  a thanksgiving church service  to commemorate  the 20th anniversary of the demise of his father,  Chief Mark Aikwuta Ahubi-Mark at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church,  Otukpo,  Benue State yesterday.

He said there is hope for a better future if “We cultivate and imbibe the virtues of love, honesty and being our brothers’ keeper at all times.”
The former senate president’s father died in 1998 when he was in exile during the reign of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha. He was unable to attend his father’s funeral.

Mark urged Nigerians to crave for peace and justice, saying peace is a sine qua- non for harmonious relationship among citizens.
In memory of his late father, he announced that the family would institute  a scholarship foundation to train Catholic Priests and Reverend Sisters  to help propagate the gospel in order to make the society a better place for all.

A couple of weeks ago ,  Senator Mark  and his family donated a magnificent building to the St. Augustine Catholic Church,  Otukpo.
Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Archbishop of Catholic Diocese of Abuja and his Otukpo counterpart, Bishop Michael Apochi performed the dedication of the church.

Earlier in his homily, Reverend Father Philimon Agbo urged leaders at all levels to make the people the centre of their policies and programmes.

He charged them to leave a legacy of good service to humanity.
