The third edition of the AIICO Insurance Team Tennis Championship held at the Tennis Section of Ikoyi Club 1938 came to a close last Saturday after four days of scintillating tennis by participants.

At the end of the four-day thrilling tennis, Team Cash Accumulation Policy, led by Bimbo Okubeno emerged winner.

Speaking at the end of the competition, ED, Technical AIICO, Adewale Kadri, who led other top officials of the company to grace the final day, expressed his delight at the level of tennis artistry exhibited by the participants, while also hailing the organizer for making the tournament very colourful.

“In spite of the fact that the objective of the tournament is for bonding among members of the club, the kind of tennis on display this evening was something to behold, and the organisers had been able to add colour to it with the way the competition was organized,” Kadri said.

Asked if AIICO could be counted on to sponsor the competition next year, he said though he had not gotten the nod of the Managing Director of AIICO, Mr. Edwin Igbiti, sports and indeed tennis development is part of the company’s priority.

“Sports development is part of our focus at AIICO and Ikoyi Club has given us the platform,” Kadri said.

In his remark, Chairman of the Tennis Section, Oloye Esan Ogunleye hailed AIICO for sponsoring the competition in spite of the harsh economic condition in the country, saying AIICO defied all odds to sponsor the championship despite the fact that it was not in their budget.

“The event this year has been very eventful in spite of the short notice,” Ogunleye said.
